Protein Function
Protein Expression
The success of the expression of (recombinant) proteins for protein function analysis depends on many factors, one of which is the consistent and controlled growth of the cell line used.
The HiGro® offers high-capacity incubation and shaking for accelerated sample growth in microwell plates. This uniquely engineered instrument combines a small shaking orbital, gas flow and temperature control system in a user-friendly, compact layout. Plate-holding cassettes allow for easy loading and unloading.

Protein Arrays
The study of the proteome presents many challenges to the researcher.
One of these is finding the best way to study tens of thousands
of proteins in as short a time as possible. With the advances in
miniaturization and automation over the recent past, several approaches
are now available on the market for producing high density protein
arrays on specialized slides. After the arraying process is complete,
lessons learnt in the automated hybridization and imaging of cDNA
and oligonucleotides now allow the consistent high throughput study
of antibody / antigen interactions.
Genomic Solutions® offers a variety of instrumentation to produce, process, and scan protein microarrays. While the OmniGrid® Accent can be used for contact printing of protein arrays, proprietary synQUAD™ technology using high-speed micro-solenoid valves coupled with high resolution syringe pumps is used in instrumentation for accurate and precise on-the-fly non-contact printing, with a choice of platforms depending on throughput needs. Once the arrays have been produced, there is still the need to study antibody / antigen interactions. The Genomic Solutions® HybStation is a programmable automated hybridization and wash station typically used for cDNA and oligonucleotide microarray hybridizations. Its versatility also allows it to be used for carrying out antibody - antigen interactions. If fluorescent tags have been used, then the results can be imaged in the two laser (red/green) or four laser (red/green/blue/yellow) UC4 scanners with a resolution down to 1µm and the ability to read four slides at a time.
Protein Assays
There is a great variety of protein assays (immuno-assays, protein-protein interaction assays, enzyme assays etc.) and experimental designs leading to the desired results with regard to a particular protein function.
The need to achieve results faster and with greater reproducibility has led to increased automation and miniaturization of the experimental design. Automated liquid handlers are becoming standard instruments in modern laboratories. These systems offer the opportunity to increase throughput, using higher density plates or other targets such as slides or membranes, and filling assay plates/targets faster and at lower costs due to lower reagent usage.
Fast, precise and accurate non-contact dispensing of nanoliter and microliter volumes is achievable with proprietary Cartesian technology: synQUAD™ dispensers couple high-speed micro-solenoid valves with high resolution syringe pumps for accurate and precise on-the-fly dispensing of volumes ranging from 20 nl to 250 μl.
